Public affairs and policy
The UK Cards Association strives to explain what the card payments industry does and why. This means:
- We work to build public confidence in the industry.
- We’ve responded to past criticism of the industry and are changing the way things are done for the better. We help to develop and promote best practice guidelines, for the industry.
- We seek to ensure that changes in legislation and regulations are balanced and meet the interests of industry, consumers and merchants without inadvertent consequences.
We promote these changes by working with the media, Government and key bodies such as the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, HM Treasury, the Home Office and the European Commission. In the past, we have successfully lobbied for changes to the law of deception; the calculation of APRs; and the sharing of information between law enforcement agencies and the industry.
