Chip & PIN

Most card payments in the UK are now made using Chip & PIN. Chip & PIN is part of a worldwide initiative to reduce card fraud, and the UK was one of the first countries to put Chip & PIN in place. Chip & PIN provides a secure way for you to use your credit, debit and prepaid cards, combining two effective security features - a microchip to help ensure that a card is not counterfeit and a PIN to help prove that you are you.

Criminals are always looking for ways to get hold of your cards, PINs and card details and the industry is committed to fighting fraud on all fronts. Chip & PIN has made our cards much less likely to be used fraudulently in UK shops and businesses, and efforts continue to tackle fraud in other situations such as on the internet, phone shopping and use abroad.

Look after your cards and keep your PIN safe. It is essential that you do not give your PIN to anyone and that you do not write down or record your PIN or any other security information.
